Policies & Procedures

You’ll find key policies displayed on the main notice boards throughout the nursery, and full copies are available to view at any time upon request.

At The Den Early Years, we follow a comprehensive set of policies and procedures designed to support the safety, well-being, and development of every child in our care. These are carefully reviewed on an annual basis to ensure they reflect current best practices and comply with all relevant legislation.

Child Protection

We kindly ask all parents and carers to take some time to familiarise themselves with our policies, as they play an important role in how we care for and support your child.

Below, we’ve highlighted a few important points from our policies that we believe are particularly helpful for you to know.

The nursery has a ‘Duty of Care’ to all children who attend our service. Where there is the possibility that a child could be at risk of abuse or neglect, the nursery is required to refer the child to the relevant authorities. Therefore, we work in conjunction with local and national guidelines including National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland. PVG/Disclosure checks are regularly carried out on all staff.

Confidentiality

All information held by the nursery on children and their families will be treated in the strictest confidence and relayed to staff on a need to know basis. Where it is deemed necessary to share information with external agencies, parental/carer consent will be sought (other than in the instance of child protection). Information may be shared with the family Health Visitor.

Sun Cream and Suitable Clothing

You must apply sun cream to your child in the warmer weather before they come into nursery for the beginning of their day/session and provide the nursery with sun cream to re-apply when it is necessary, for example at lunch time for children who are in for a full day. The sun cream must be factor 15 or above (we advise factor 50), suitable for children and unopened. Children must also have suitable clothing for the weather conditions for example sun hats in the warmer weather and warm jackets, hats, scarves and gloves in the cooler weather. There is no such thing as unsuitable weather, just unsuitable clothing. Children who are brought to nursery unprepared will not be able to participate in outdoor play.

Equal Opportunities

The nursery aims to demonstrate through its work that it positively values and respects children of all ethnic origins/racial groups, religions, cultures, linguistic backgrounds and abilities. Children of both sexes are positively encouraged by staff to participate in all activities. We aim to provide all children with a broad and balanced learning environment that is committed to the integration of children with additional needs.

Collection of Children

To ensure the safety of all children, the nursery operates a policy whereby only named persons are authorised to collect your child. If for any reason you require a third party to collect your child from nursery, you must inform a senior member of staff before this person is due to arrive. No child is allowed to leave the nursery without the prior consent of the contracting parent/carer.

Withdrawal

In the case of a child leaving nursery, a full month’s notice of withdrawal in writing must be given, or a month’s fees paid in lieu of notice.

Complaints

It is clearly of paramount importance that the nursery should run smoothly and that parents/carers and staff work together in a spirit of co-operation. In the event of a complaint from a parent/carer every effort will be made to respond quickly and appropriately. Complaints should be addressed either verbally or in writing to the nursery manager. Our full complaints procedure can be viewed in our Policies and Procedures booklet.

Parental Conduct

The nursery operates a zero tolerance policy in respect of parental conduct. Any form of aggression or misconduct displayed toward any staff member will result in the immediate termination of your child’s place at nursery.

It is paramount for a smooth relationship that parents/carers respect and adhere to all of our policies and procedures .
